Container Type and Thread Size
The classic 4-liter amber glass bottle with finger loop is the most commonly found glass bottle in US labs. Used by many chemical manufacturers for their solvents, these bottles are supplied with a fairly standardized GL38 finish also called a 38-430 glass thread. Although technically compatible with the similarly-named 38-430 caps used on Nalgene plastic bottles, is is important to note that these GL38 caps are not deep enough to engage and seal properly on plastic bottles and that you should order port caps specifically designed for 38-430 plastic bottles. Watch out for 38mm thread variants: some chemical suppliers utilize a 38-415 thread on 4 Liter bottles instead of the more common 38-430. Although similar in appearance, these two threads are not interchangeable and will not result in a full seal.
