Phenol Red, Reagent, ACS is mostly used as a pH indicator that is commonly known due to it being used in pool water testing kits. It is a convenient and easy way for cell biologists to check cell culture pH levels due to its change of color with change of pH - yellow solution below pH 6.8 and fuchsia solution above pH 8.2.
