Dithizone is a sulfur-containing organic compound and a member of the phenylhydrazines family. It is used to assess the purity of human pancreatic islet preparations often used for patients with type 1 diabetes who need a transplantation procedure. Additionally, it is a chelating agent that becomes useful for heavy metal poisoning and assay. 

Dithizone, Reagent, ACS, also known as Diphenylthiocarbazone, is used to measure the purity of pancreatic islet preparations for transplantation into humans with type 1 diabetes. It is a ligand that forms complexes with several metals including mercury and lead. As an ACS grade quality reagent, its chemical specifications are the de facto standards for chemicals used in many high-purity applications and typically designate the highest quality chemical available for laboratory use.
