Bench Top Solid Waste Containers: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
With the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), it’s important to understand the proper protection to prevent spreading or contracting the virus is key to keeping COVID-19 under control – this also involves the precautions you should take when handling hazardous waste. According the CDC’s website, it is recommended to do the following with used gloves, facial tissues, masks and disinfecting wipes:
“Place all used disposable gloves, facemasks, and other contaminated items in a lined container before disposing of them with other household waste. Clean your hands (with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer) immediately after handling these items. Soap and water should be used preferentially if hands are visibly dirty.”
To prevent other household items from being contaminated, you should use a separate container with a liner and a secure lid. We recommend using a small biohazard waste container lined with a red “hazmat” liner. The label and red bag color indicate that the items inside are potentially infected, and prevents others from adding non-contaminated waste to container. The lid latches securely and the wide base prevents the container from being tipped over accidentally, minimizing the risk of cross-contamination.
