Description
Enhance Laboratory Safety with the ECO Funnel® Chemical Waste Disposal Systems
Are you tired of spills, emissions, and compliance violations in your laboratory? ECO Funnel® provides a comprehensive solution for managing hazardous liquid waste. Its unique design combines the functionality of a sealed waste container and a solvent funnel, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant chemical disposal. ECO Funnels are fitted with custom screw caps to secure each model to a matching waste container. This model includes a 4 liter LDPE bottle with a 38-430 closure and a compliant secondary container with detachable base.
Key Features:
- Health and Safety: ECO funnel captures chemical fumes, making the lab safer for personnel by reducing exposure to hazardous waste, and by minimizing the risk of fire by containing volatiles.
- Patented Design: Our innovative design incorporates a latching lid with gasket, a removable particle filter, and two detachable tubes to prevent evaporation.
- Overflow Protection: The larger 8" models feature a unique safety feature that prevents over-filling, ensuring safe and controlled waste disposal. The Secondary Air-Lock Tube creates an air gap inside the bottle, causing fluid to back up into the funnel before the container is full, a visual indicator to the user to stop pouring. When the screw cap is loosened, the remaining fluid will safely flow into the container and not overflow.
- Chemical Resistance: Constructed from durable HDPE with a closed-cell HDPE gasket, this funnel is resistant to most corrosive chemicals, providing long-lasting performance. As a pass-through system, chemicals do not remain in contact with the material for long, making it compatible with most solvents (including those that need to be stored in glass.)
- Customizable with HPLC: The ECO Funnel® can be custom-fitted with up to 6 HPLC / LC-MS waste lines, making it adaptable to your specific laboratory waste disposal processes.
Benefits of the ECO Funnel®:
- Solves the "open waste container" problem.
- Prevents emissions of 99.9% of volatile waste solvents, acids, and bases.
- Meets local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Reusable and resistant to corrosive chemicals.
- Compact design for efficient space utilization.

Does the ECO Funnel® comply with regulations for emissions from open waste containers?
Yes. The primary function of the ECO Funnel is to reduce the emission of volatile solvents to near zero, while providing a convenient way to handle temporary waste in the lab.
Are there any chemicals that should be avoided when using the ECO Funnel®?
Yes, you should avoid strong acids, bases and oxidizers that can jeopardize the integrity of polyethylene. However, even strong chemicals don't affect the plastic much since the funnel is only a pass-through mechanism and doesn't touch the chemical for extended periods.
Can the ECO Funnel® be kept on the waste bottle 24 hrs a day?
We recommend that the ECO Funnel be removed from a waste container when not in use, just like any other funnel. They are for the collection of temporary waste only. Waste should be frequently transferred to a more permanent waste container for optimum safety.

Segregate your waste streams with ;color-coded ECO Funnels. Every organization has its own color-coding rules and systems in place, but proper segregation of hazardous waste is required for all laboratories. One popular way to color-code chemicals is described to the right. You can use our four lid colors to keep certain waste streams separate. Common chemical waste disposal rules to follow:
|
Common Color Coding Systems |
|
Red = flammables | ||
Blue = toxic (chloroform, cyanide, heavy metals) or corrosive and/or aqueous | ||
Yellow = reactive | ||
Green - General low hazard chemicals or oxidizing agents |
