General description
1,2-Propanediol, a 1,2-alkanediol is an industrially important chemical. Due to its increasing demand many green methods have been proposed for its synthesis mainly using the inexpensive glycerol as the starting material.It is a raw material for the synthesis of intermediates, building blocks and polymers.
Application
1,2-Propanediol may be used in the following processes:
• Green synthesis of propylene carbonate.
• Production of lactic acid by green catalytic oxidation.
• Propanal generation by catalytic dehydration.
